Division A Governor 2013-14.

Eddie O' Mahony was elected unopposed as the 2013-14 Division A Governor. Eddie is currently a member of the Blarney Toastmasters Club, having previously served as President of Glanmire Toastmasters, and was involved in founding the PMG and Cork Leeside Toastmaster Clubs.
Eddie served as Area 3 Governor, 2011-12 and has served as Assistant Division Governor since 2012. Best wishes to Eddie for the forthcoming Toastmaster year.

Torquay Conference.

Tom Hebel, Apple Computers Cork, did Division A proud at the District 71 Conference, being one of the two Irish Competitors who qualified from the International Speech Contest semi-finals to compete at the final, held on May 11th.

Division A held its round of the International Speech and Evaluation contests at the Oriel House Hotel, Ballincollig, on Sunday April 21st.  Vicky McCarthy, Area 36 Governor, was contest chair and Eddie O' Mahony, was topicsmaster.  In attendance was Ronnie Gillanders, District 71 PRO, while the test speech for the evaluation contest was delivered by Christina Hession, Phoenix-Tara Toastmasters.

The Paul G Murphy award was presented to Ivan O' Sullivan, Midleton Toastmasters, who was a past Area Governor and District Secretary,

International Speech Contest

1st Anthony Galvin, Cork Toastmasters.
2nd Tom Hebel, Apple Toastmasters, Cork.
3rd Kevin Walsh, Fermoy Toastmasters.

Evaluation contest:

1st Anthony Galvin, Cork Toastmasters.
2nd Pat Sexton, Speakeasy Toastmasters, Mallow.
3rd John Keating, EMC Toastmasters.

Division A Contest

The Division A final of the International Speech and Evaluation contests will be held at the Oriel House Hotel, Ballincollig, Sunday April 21st, 14;00 for 14;30 start. District 71 PRO, Ronnie Gillanders will be attending. The Paul G Murphy award, honouring outstanding service to the Division will be presented at the contest.  

 

Area 36 contest results.

Area 36 held its final of the International Speech and Evaluation contests at the Desmond Complex, Newcastle West on April 17th. Ursula Daly, Killarney Toastmasters, won the Speech Contest and Martin O' Sullivan, Tralee Toastmasters, won the evaluation contest.

Area 23 contest results.

Area 23 held its final of the international speech and evaluation contests at Bru Columbanus, Wilton on April 10th. Anthony Galvin, Cork Toastmasters, won both contests.

Area 11 Results

The Area 11 final of the international speech and evaluation contest were held at O' Donovan's Hotel, Clonakilty on April 8th. Ger O' Leary, Kinsale & District Toastmasters won the Speech contest while
Rosemary Dickson, Clonakilty Toastmasters won the Evaluation contest.

Area 49 contest results

The Area 49 finals of the International Speech and Evaluation contests were held at the Oriel House Hotel on April 6th. The results of the contests were as follows:

Speech contest

2. Stephen Day, Bishopstown Toastmasters.

Evaluation contest
1. John Keating  EMC Toastmasters.
2. John O' Donovan, Bishopstown Toastmasters.

Area 17 contest results.

The Area 17 finals of the International Speech and  Evaluation contests were held on the 4th April at the Hibernian Hotel, Mallow. Results of the contests are as follows:

Speech contest;  1st Kevin Walsh, Fermoy Toastmasters.
                           2nd Ann Lyons Galtee Toastmasters.

Evaluation contest:   1st Pat Sexton, Speakeasy Toastmasters, Mallow.
                                  2nd Ann Lyons, Galtee Toastmasters.

The Area 3  final of the international speech and evaluation contests were held at the Imperial Hotel, Cork on April 2nd. Results of the contests were as follows:

Tralee- SPEAK

Tralee Toastmasters are hosting a DVD night, showing SPEAK, the recent film on the Toastmaster world championship of public speaking, on Monday 29th April O'Donnell's Bar Mounthawk, Tralee, Co. Kerry,8pm start with a tea / coffee break included. €7 charge at the door. Toastmasters and non Toastmasters are welcome.

Social Media Workshop

Division workshop on how to use Social Media to promote Toastmasters, 8;00pm, Hibernian Hotel, Mallow, February 28th.

Speakeasy 20th Anniversary celebration.

Tickets for the Speakeasy Toastmasters Mallow 20th Anniversary celebration are available from Ronan at 086-2758501. Tickets will be thirty euro.

Evaluation workshop Bishopstown.

Evaluation workshop presented by Freddie Daniells, District 71 Governor, will be hosted by the Bishopstown Toastmasters club on March 2nd. Venue will be the Bishopstown Library, Wilton, Cork, Exhibition Room, time 13:30-17;00, admission 5 euros.

Division A Workshop

Division A workshop on the D71 website will be held on Monday 28th January at the Blarney Woollen Mills Hotel, 20:00. Admission 5 euro.

Tralee Toastmasters 20th Anniversary.

Tralee Toastmasters celebrated their 20th Anniversary with a special meeting on January 7th, where all the past presidents of the club were interviewed. Members of the club also appeared on  the Radio Kerry Talkabout program the following day

Lucia Hughes

Division A expressed sympathy on the passing away of Lucia Hughes, former District PRO and member of Carlow Toastmasters who passed away in the New Year.

Stephen O' Reilly

Division A wishes to pay tribute to Stephen O' Reilly, a stalwart member of Crusaders Toastmasters who passed away recently.

Open fortnights

The second open fortnight in District 71 will be held in the first half of February. Non members are especially encouraged to attend Toastmaster meetings during this fortnight.
